b) Brief project title Conducting a scientific study of performances of improved biomass cookstoves under actual use conditions, and developing a manual for the same Project processing no. 08.2144.7-002.00 Contract no. 81172396 Country of assignment India Period of assignment May to August 2014 Project description and sector (up to three relevant areas can be specified for the reference projects of the expression of interest) The Renewable Energy Component of the Indo-German Energy Programme (IGEN-RE) aims towards increasing the – so far low – adoption of improved biomass cookstoves (ICS). To achieve this, identifying the right stove technology adapted to the respective socio-cultural and economic context as well applicable to existing fuel types is crucial. To help identify the suitable cookstove models for different user groups and geographical locations, the objectives of this assignment are:

1. Measuring the performance (emissions of CO, CO2 and PM2.5; fuel and thermal efficiency) of improved cookstoves, in actual use conditions, in different geographies (different cooking and fuel-use practices)

2. Providing an estimated range of performance of the cookstoves in different field use scenarios

3. Developing a methodology and a manual for conducting scientific measurement of the performance of improved cookstoves in the field

c) Sector: Field testing of biomass cookstoves, biomass cookstoves, emission and efficiency tests

d) Personnel: Specification of inputs and necessary qualifications

e) Team: Expertise in the area of Indoor Air Pollution, improved cookstoves, developing protocols for field research and experience in using scientific equipment for analysing emission and thermal efficiency in the field. Experience of at least 5 improved cookstove performance tests.

f) Senior Researcher (1): 10 years of experience in the field testing of cookstoves

l) Please note: The application of the Capacity WORKS management model is an integral component of the contract and therefore forms part of the Terms of Reference. In the technical assessment of the offers, emphasis is placed on ensuring that Capacity WORKS has been adequately taken into account. It is important that the relevant personnel (team leader, backstopper) undergo training with a GIZ-accredited provider before the start of the project.
