Contract description: The overall objective of this technical assistance operation is to provide to the Syrian Railways, the Syrian Ministries of Transport and Environment and the EIB the required information, analysis and recommendations they need for endorsing the parameters of a proposed investment for constructing a standard gauge rail link from Damascus to the Syrian - Jordanian border as part of an envisaged new Damascus – Amman standard gauge line. This planned railway line, of approximately 107 km in length (subject to design review), constructed to single track standards, represents the Phase 1 core investment project of which the feasibility is to be studied. This TA operation is therefore aimed at assessing the technical and institutional feasibility, the market potential for rail in the Damascus – Amman corridor, financial viability, economical rationale and justification, and environmental sustainability of the project. In this sense, the selected consultant is expected to prepare the studies needed for the appraisal of the Damascus - Syria / Jordan border railway project. 8. Indicative budget: EUR 1,000,000 9.
